Training with Team Benson

Submitted by Brian Benson

Training Day Two - We decide to take the tandem to the Seymour Demonstration forest in North Vancouver.  Two friends were going to join us for leisurely ride.  They got lost on the way there so we soaked up the sun for an hour.  I saw this as a relaxation exercise.  Margaret thought we should have been riding for the hour while we waited. Hmmm.....two days on a tandem.....is this any indication of how our ride will go.

The ride went well.  I wore my mountain bike shorts which do not have any chamois or padding in them.  Let’s just say I’ll go find my road cycling shorts before our next ride. The weather was spectacular, clear sky, snow in the mountains and tons of people out enjoying the day.  Our friends quite enjoyed drafting us on the tandem.  After a while our competitive instincts took over and we put the hammer down.  Lost them. (granted they were on mountain bikes that are much slower than road bikes) So much for our leisurely ride.  Once we hit the hills they caught us. We anticipated this.  After two trips in and out of the forest we enjoyed a picnic lunch topped off with some Girls Guide cookies.  Girl Guide cookies are considered carbo loading aren’t they?

We are looking forward to getting out on a training ride with the other riders one day soon!!!
