I had no idea how much I didn't know till I took a two hour course tonight thru my local cycle shop .... wow chain break? taping handlebars yourself? even just knowing how to change a tire the easy way...hands on class, there is nothing like it.
I am no bike mechanic by any means now but I know now what to look for, how to do a check up after each day and what to look for. I feel much more confident to do my long rides alone as when stuff has gone wrong I honestly didn't know what to look for.
Riding today for 70 km without rain gear was such a treat. MR.Sun is a real lovely June concept. Working on getting all my gear list filled out, getting excited and nervous from moment to moment. Small town business's still helping me out by giving me discounts on necessary items (delicious natural electrolyte drink mixes, electrolyte lollies and bars) I can't wait to get out there and get to know all of the other riders for Cystic Fibrosis.
Thanks, Mark, at Arrowsmith Cycle, for teaching us so much tonight. My friend Val and her husband attended too. There were just a few folks, so we got great attention and hands on. Val is doing the "ride to conquer cancer" this month. I met her after she saw a story about our ride and my photo in our local paper. We ride together once in awhile.
For all the support from everyone - even by email - I want to thank you all.
Life is good. Breathe deep, appreciate the moment!
